The emerging categorization in the photo archive of Spaarnestad
This research is about the emerging categorization in the archive of Spaarnestad Photo, which enables employees to find one photo among millions. Investigating how these categories have emerged may increase our knowledge about categorization processes in general. Though the basic structure of the archive (based on the UDC system) is clear, the naming of the categories remains sometimes a mystery. Each name is a product of a human decision, made in a certain time in a particular cultural context.
